The health insurer isn't paying your care invoice — why
A submitted invoice stays unpaid. No query, no explicit rejection, no money. The problem is rarely the insurer — it's that this can go unnoticed for months.
Why an invoice stays open
In the vast majority of cases there is no dispute, just an administrative reason:
- A rejection that arrived in your source system but was never processed
- Incomplete or mismatched client data
- A missing or expired medical prescription, where one is required
- Confusion between tiers payant and tiers garant — the invoice went to the wrong debtor
- Formal errors in the billing file itself
What these have in common: the insurer doesn't contact you on its own, and in your books the invoice looks like every other one.
Spot it early instead of searching late
The only reliable method is reconciliation: every issued invoice is matched against its incoming payment. Anything without a payment is open — anything past its due date is overdue.
Without that reconciliation an unpaid invoice stays invisible. That is why many only notice at the year-end that something has been missing since spring.
Following up properly
Once an insurer invoice shows as open, this isn't about dunning — it's about clarifying:
- Check in your source system whether a rejection exists and what it objects to.
- Ask the insurer for the status if there is no rejection.
- Fix the cause — correct data, supply the prescription, put the debtor right.
- Resubmit the corrected invoice.
Dunning is a separate matter: it concerns invoices to clients — patient cost-sharing under Art. 25a KVG and non-tariff services — not insurer billing.
How CuraSovo gives you the view
CuraSovo brings your care invoices into your bexio accounting, where bexio reconciles them against incoming bank payments. In the invoice list you see the current state for each one: open, overdue, partly paid or paid — live, not as a stored snapshot.
Overdue items are colour-marked. Within seconds you can see which insurer owes what since when — and follow up while the matter is still fresh.

How would I even notice that an insurer hasn't paid?
Only through reconciliation between invoice and payment. Without an up-to-date reconciliation an unpaid item stays invisible.
Is the money lost if the insurer doesn't pay?
As a rule no — the reason is usually administrative and fixable. But the later you notice, the harder it hits your cash flow.
Can I send a health insurer a reminder?
The usual route is different: check the rejection, fix the cause, resubmit corrected. Reminders apply to invoices to clients, such as patient cost-sharing.
Does CuraSovo follow up for me?
No. CuraSovo shows you live what's open and overdue. The follow-up stays with you — but you know where and since when.
